WHAT CAN YOU DO TO GO GREEN?

Small changes to your every day habits can make a huge difference over time, especially if we ALL do it

At work

  • Bring a reusable water bottle to work and refill it in the airport

  • Bring reusable cutlery

  • Bring your own food to work. It’s cheaper and generates less waste!

  • Sort recyclables from waste whenever possible

  • Spread the word! It’s going to take a combined effort from all of us

At the hotel

  • Bring soap boxes and reusable shampoo bottles

  • Minimize towel and pillow use

  • Don’t use both beds in two-bed rooms

  • Get coffee in the lobby when available

  • Turn off A/C and electricity when not in the hotel room

  • Return hotel keys to the front desk at checkout for continued use

  • Use hotel recycling when available

    • Turn off APU when ground power and/or ground A/C is available

    • Single Engine Taxi as much as possible

    • Optimize fuel burn during each phase of flight

    • Request shortcuts from ATC for more direct routing to your destination

    • Minimize printer use

  • Don’t request a new trash bag unless needed

  • Sort trash and recycling in the flight deck and airport when able

  • Use rechargeable batteries in your flashlights and noise-cancelling headsets

  • Captains - consider briefing your crews about being more Green; for example, let them know you want the team to recycle when able

The green flight attendant

  • Make best efforts to sort trash and recyclables

  • Stack cups and maximize space usage in each trash bag

  • Use already-opened bags of napkins, cups, and other commo before opening new bags

  • Make announcements for passengers to hold on to their cups for future drink services

  • Ask passengers if they want napkins and snacks before handing them out

  • Consolidate liquid waste into one bag

  • Minimize waste creation in the cabin when able

The green p

assenger

  • Bring your own reusable water bottle and thermos to fill up in the airport

  • Decline offers for napkins, plasticware, snacks, and other onboard handouts you don’t want

  • Use digital boarding passes instead of printing paper ones when you can

  • Pack your trash out from the plane and discard it in the airport recycling

  • Offer your water cup back to the flight attendant for a refill instead of getting a new cup

  • Utilize carbon offset programs either through the purchase of your ticket, or externally through a program like Carbon Fund.

  • Choose sustainable accommodation
